Kentucky Waterfalls, Arches and Landscapes
A Shelter From The Storm
This is Eagle Falls at Cumberland Falls State Resort Park, McCreary County, Kentucky. I hiked to this location just after a rain shower, and spent a little time viewing the falls from several different perspectives. I found Eagle Creek to be muddy enough to be distracting, the sky was gray and dreary and the wind was causing too much movement in the trees. So I scrambled up onto a huge boulder underneath the rock shelter, and got setup for this shot (sans creek, sky and trees). Then the rain started falling again, so I just spent some time enjoying the sights and the sounds from my dry perch. I especially enjoyed having a viewing angle where I could watch the leftmost flow passing through a hole in the rock. I was speculating that erosion could eventually create an arch here. When the rain temporarily slowed to a sprinkle I took this shot.
