Pink Pterodactyl
This is the southern view from Blackburn Rock in Red River Gorge. I enjoyed the view here until well past sunset. Later I was a bit apprehensive about having to hike over two miles through the forest on a very dark night. Soon my headlamp revealed two large glowing eyes headed my way. As the eyes rushed past me on the narrow ridge I could barely make out the faint outline of what appeared to be a deer attached to those glowing eyes. Further along, I came within a few feet of stepping on a small snake as it crossed my path. I only saw it's back half as it slithered under the cover of vegetation. Finally, I was startled by a commotion of unknown origin nearby. Perhaps my close encounters came into play when I first viewed this photograph. The cloud formation near the top center reminded me of a pterodactyl with it's mouth open. If you can't see it at first then look again after taking a hike through the forest on a dark night. :)
