The lower portion of the Rockcastle River is a protected Kentucky Wild River. It cuts through a beautiful area in the Daniel Boone National Forest. The whitewater shown in the background is called The Lower Narrows. During dry periods (such as captured here) this section of the river is a series of narrow white water rapids and lazy reflecting pools. A glimpse of white water can be seen from the trails (on each side of the river) only at rare instances. For the best views it is necessary to hike off trail, and then most likely scramble over large boulders.
