Decorated Dunes
This is Great Sand Dunes National Park at sunset. The highest dunes in North America are located here. Melting snow from the Rocky Mountains feeds Medano Creek. The creek creates ripples in the sand. The sand patterns then cause ripples to appear on the surface of the water. I took the same photo over and over to make sure I captured the sunset at it's peak. While scrolling through all of my photos, it was interesting to observe how much the ripple pattern changed from one shot to the next.
This photo was taken 49 minutes after the previous (snowy mountain) photo. I only moved my camera only about 100 feet, and pointed it in a different direction to get this sunset shot.
